INCANTATIONS

A solo exhibition at TØN Gallery, Dublin; 29 AUG – 21 SEP 2024.

INCANTATIONS invites us into a meditative space with a reverence to ancient traditions. The repetition of form and motifs, the use of sacred geometry, and the integration of movement within stillness are intended to draw the observer into a state of contemplative awareness, mirroring the introspective practices of Tantra, Celtic Shamanism and the embodied stillness of Zen sand drawing. These ancient practices resonate through the lines, colors, and spaces within each piece, creating a bridge between the physical and metaphysical realms.

Explorations of wave forms in movement, both harmonious and chaotic, underline the Shrine series. In the Chladni Akustik and Incant Padma, sound and cymatics, are clearly defined by the groundbreaking work of Ernst Chladni and his original Akustik drawings, visualising the unseen forces that shape our world. The patterns that emerge from sound vibrations are not just scientific phenomenons but are part of the intangible forces that shape our perception and connect us to something greater than ourselves, holding space, like ancient rock carvings from the megalithic and neolithic period.

The primal energies that bind us are inherent in this multidisciplinary work, creating echoes of our ancestors that have resonated through time. Ancient and prehistoric markings and traditions etched in stone are not merely artifacts but are visual manifestations of a lost universal tribal language that speaks to the core of our existence.

Grounding this collection is the installation UNEARTHED, a meditation on the elemental forces using the materials of limestone, volcanic glass, healing water and space. These forces are the primal building blocks of existence, the fluidity and healing properties of water, the solidity of the earth, the transformative energy of fire, the invisible currents of air, and the vast emptiness and formlessness of ether, each element is represented not just as physical matter but as spiritual and emotional currents that flow through the human experience.

INCANTATIONS is an invitation to journey inward, to connect with the primal, the universal, and the sacred. It is in recognition of the ancient and the timeless, a meditation on the forces that continue to shape our world, both seen and unseen.
